Jazz Cafe and Classic Album Sundays present:
Donald Byrd’s Black Byrd

Donald Byrd’s Black Byrd
Monday 5th February 19:00-23:00

Launching in January, Classic Album Sundays and Jazz Café are set to co-host a series of discussions and live performances exploring key records and their influence on contemporary music.

Throughout January, February, March and April, four respected London musicians will perform their own interpretation of a chosen album. Each performance will be introduced by an interview with Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy of Classic Album Sundays who will examine how the records have impacted the artist’s own work and its influence on contemporary music in general.

Monday 5th February sees Grammy nominated Yussef Kamaal and Daymé Arocena trumpet player Yelfris Valdés performing Donald Byrd’s 1973 Blue Note release, Black Byrd. A jazz funk classic, Black Byrd was Byrd’s first and arguably most lauded release on Blue Note with a poppy style that grew his fanbase exponentially across the globe.

Line up:
Yelfris Valdés – trumpet
Nathan Britton – keys
Dario Congedo – drums
Liran Donin – bass
Nathaniel Cross – trombone
Theon Cross – tuba
Christian Mendoza – guitar
