We Got The Jazz: Exploring The Low End Theory

We Got The Jazz: Exploring The Low End Theory
Saturday 24th March 19:00-22:30

On the 24th March Ashley Henry will present a tribute to one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory.

The contribution that the The Low End Theory made to developing the level of production and lyricism in Hip-Hop records cannot be overstated. The album leant heavily on the influence of Jazz in Hip-Hop production, and sought to achieve the laid back attitude of Jazz music, with rhymes on top. The album succeeded in establishing the musical, cultural and historical links between Hip-Hop and Jazz, and tracks such as “Buggin’ Out”, “Scenario”, and “Check the Rhime” have cemented the album’s status as one of the most influential records in Hip-Hop history.

Fresh from being nominated by Jazz FM for their Breakthrough Artist of the Year award, Ashley Henry is a man on the rise. His influences span Sinead Harnett, Digital Underground, ZuZu, Margot Fonteyn, Era Istrefi, Freddie Mercury, and Dreezy, but Hip-Hop has always played a huge part in his musical inspiration. He is perfectly placed to perform a reworking of the Low End Theory, highlighting the album’s extraordinary musicality. We can’t wait.
