One of London’s jazz scene’s most vibrant and forward thinking artists, Sarathy Korwar presents a night dedicated to the music of his homeland; India.
Sarathy’s show is called Upaj, which translates as ‘improvise’ in Hindi/Sanskrit, and will present two of the country’s most genre breaking and experimental musicians in Jason Singh and Talvin Singh.
Talvin, a composer and tabla player, is known for creating an innovative fusion of Indian classical music and drum and bass, and is more broadly involved with an electronica sub genre called Asian Underground, and more recently as Indian and/or Asian electronica.
Jason Singh is a composer, beatboxer, percussionist and sound artist. Over the past 20 years, he’s collaborated, produced and performed with a wide range of celebrated artists including Shabaka Hutchings, Seb Rochford, Yazz Ahmed, Nitin Sawhney, Rokia Traore, Aidan O Rourke, Soumik Datta, Arun Ghosh and Stuart McCallum.
