Cubafrobeat and friends present:
A Guide To AfroCubism

A Guide To AfroCubism
Saturday 23rd June 19:00-23:00

Two of London’s finest Cuban/Afro collectives team up for a night that celebrates the cross-pollination of two of the world’s most enduring musical styles.

Through the vast movement of people and culture from Africa to the Caribbean, the rhythms and melodies of Africa were transposed onto a new culture. This relationship was symbiotic, Cuban music becoming a la mode in Western African and starting a whole new musical relationship of mutual assimilation that has spanned decades, and from Buena Vista Social Club to Orchestra Baobab, has resulted in some of the most compelling music in the world.

Cubafrobeat is a groove train, travelling between Havana, Cuba and Lagos, Nigeria – fuelled by a London sensibility and utilising the talents of UK’s top Cuban and Afrobeat specialists – “An inspired musical conversation between two sides of the Atlantic”.

Afrospot is all about the joyous sounds of Highlife, the indigenous authentic dance music of West Africa throughout the whole nineties. Led by charismatic Kodjovi Kush, creator and a world number one interpreter of Agbajazz, the fusion of Agbadja, the traditional music and dance from the Ewe tribe (Togo, Ghana, Benin), its rhythms and time signatures with jazz, Cuban and reggae influences. Guitars shine, horns sing, bass and percussion blaze in a true band of all-stars, music ambassador extraordinaire.
