Following a week-long writing camp in Nairobi, the artists return to the UK for a three-date tour to perform #newtangents together at:

Band on the Wall, Manchester on 23rd Feb
24 Kitchen Street, Liverpool on 24th Feb

The ESP. album drops in April 2020 on London label Waella’s Choice

ESP. was awarded funding by new Arts new Audiences (nAnA), the British Council’s cross-continental, multi-disciplinary collaboration initiative, and subsequently supported by Arts Council England and the Analogue Foundation.

Maxwell Owin (UK): a DJ and producer at the heart of many of London’s best-loved jazz artists, including Joe Armon-Jones (who he released an acclaimed EP with for YAM Records) and Nubya Garcia.

Lynda Dawn (UK): a London singer trained in the Pentecostal Church with the range of the US gospel greats. She featured on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers Vol. 13, followed by a debut EP in 2019, on Mndsgn’s Akashik Records.

Lex Amor (UK): North London lyricist and producer, whose soft flow is part poetry, part whispered singing. Host of the Mellowdic show on Reprazent Radio and contributor on Touching Bass’s Afro Chronicles compilation.

Labdi (KE): musician and singer who bucks tradition that bars women from playing the orutu, a traditional Kenyan string instrument. Featured in Five East African Artists You Need To Hear by Dazed.

K15 (UK): musician, composer, producer and DJ with releases on Wild Oats, Eglo and Wotnot channelling jazz and soul into a house structure. Aliases include jazz group Culross Close and soul duo Profusion.

Karun (KE): a singer and songwriter formerly part of the BET Awards nominated Camp Mulla and now one of Kenya’s most celebrated soul voices as a solo artist, featured in Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 for 2019.

Hibotep (UG): a Ugandan counter-culture visionary, as a DJ, filmmaker, fashion designer, installation artist, undercover rapper and producer. Performed twice on Boiler Room at Nyege Nyege Festival and one of the lead artists in East Africa’s New Wave by RA.

Faizal Mostrixx (UG): one of Kampala’s most recognised contemporary dancers and a producer giving traditional Ugandan sounds an electronic instrumentalism to preserve its heritage. Featured in 15 East African Artists You Need to Hear by RA and provided the music to the Adidas Originals campaign ‘Freedom’.
