BURHAN ÖCAL

Demirdogmez Project consists of virtuosic and creative musicians from a mix musical backgrounds and cultures. They lace their wide repertoire of traditional Anatolian/Turkish and original music with world-class oriental, ethnic and electronic dance rhythms, psychedelic tones and jazzy vibes.

On this very special occasion the timeless tales of Gökhan DEMİRDÖĞMEZ’s G clarinet meet for the first time with the legendary Burhan ÖÇAL.

Recognised worldwide as a talented and influential percussionist and bandleader, Burhan Öçal has made the bridging of musical cultures his central mission. After his initial contact with western music, he embraced the fusion of the sounds of his roots in Kirklareli, Thrace with jazz and electronic music.

Burhan Öçal’s instruments are as diverse as his music. In addition to a variety of percussion, such as the Darbuka (a vase-shaped drum played with the fingers), Kös (kettle drum), Kudüm and Bendir, he is a highly skilled player on a number of stringed instruments, including the Divan-Saz, Tanbur and Ud. His expressive voice adds to the spectrum of musical elements at his command.

Öçal has become widely known for touring and recording with Oriental Ensemble, who perform traditional Roma and Turkish folk music, as well as his leadership of Trakya All-Stars, a benchmark in blending electronic and Balkan music.

The ensembles special guest participating in the Demirdöğmez Project come from a deep tradition of contemporary and experimental music and are respected for eastern and oriental music.

Jomy Jai (Keys)

Jomy Jai is a london based musician-arranger with a unique touch that is inspired from the vibrations of the subcultures and the nature itself. He makes genre-blending jazz, electronic, and world music with avant-garde influences of his cultural roots. As a multi-instrumentalist, Jomy has performed in many well-known stages and collaborated with numerous artists.

Burak Ersöz (Drums)

London-based versatile drummer who  performed with many important musicians all around the world. His ability to perform various different music styles by combining his unique sound/style and strong “in the pocket” feel allowed him to perform on some of the worlds most respected festivals.

Jamie Benzies (Double Bass-Electric Bass)

A London based Devonian multi-instrumentalist. He takes part in many groups and projects with a musical performance that shines in the sound of both East and West.
