Jazz Cafe and The Steve Reid Foundation present:
Phil Ranelin & Tribe Renaissance

Thursday 1st August

In association with the Steve Reid Foundation, we are honoured to welcome trombonist, composer and arranger Phil Ranelin to our stage this summer.

Along with his band Tribe Renaissance, a multi-generational jazz ensemble formed in Los Angeles, California in 2001, we’ll join Phil in celebrating his 80th Birthday with the release of the long awaited 3 Record Vinyl Box Set on WideHive Records Phil Ranelin Collected 2003-2019.

Born and raised in Indianapolis Indiana, trombonist Ranelin has been a main stay of the Los Angeles jazz scene since the late 1970’s, having shared bills with the likes of Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp.

In 1999, Phil was designated a Cultural Ambassador for the City of Los Angeles and also designated a “Rare and Valuable Cultural Treasure”, and in September of 2016, the Indiana native was inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame.
