British jazz trumpeter/flugelhorn player, composer, arranger and bandleader Kevin G Davy presents Miles Davis’ jazz-meets-classical masterpiece Sketches of Spain 60 years on from its release.
The album stands alone as the best example of Third Stream music: a fusion of jazz, classical and world styles. Inspired by a flamenco performance in New York, Davis studied as many flamenco records as he could find before pairing with Evans to create a quasi-symphonic, quasi-jazz world of sound. It’s initial reception was lukewarm, but it would go on to be a highly regarded record of the era, carrying on where Kind of Blue left off in questioning the very nature of jazz music.
A vital member of the UK jazz world for over 30 years, Davy has all the right attributes to recreate this highly moving and atmospheric album alongside an all-star line up of London talents.
