Tastemakers Jazz re:freshed, continue their mission to showcase the UK Jazz revolution and, in collaboration with Jazz Cafe, they are presenting a collection of the next generation of artists to look out for in 2019 and beyond.
Chelsea Carmichael is a London-based composer, arranger and saxophonist. She is heavily involved in the vibrant UK jazz scene, playing with the likes of SEED ensemble, The Huw Bennett Quintet, Arun Ghosh, and the Arthur O’Hara trio, and touring with international heavy weights such as Terence Blanchard and Courtney Pine. For the first time, she is debuting her own project under her own name, playing original music influenced by her love of groove and intricate rhythms.
Nihilism is a collective that explores the sound aesthetic of eclectic musical genres. A fundamental value they all share about expression is that one creates the meaning they desire behind their artistry- thus the name ‘Nihilism’.
Vertaal (Theo Howarth and Ajit Gill) are a spiritual jazz-funk duo, flirting with the sounds of hip-hop, electronic soul and all kinds of exotic melody. An eclectic host of guest players, captivating songwriting and a flawless on-the-fly live show make for a truly energising musical experience.
