One of the undisputed legends of the jazz world, Wayne Shorter has combined prodigious talent with a childlike interest in the world throughout the course of his long and storied career.
As a composer, his works are sphinx-like, filled with idiosyncratic rhythms and surprising harmonies, and his eventual addition to Miles Davis’ group would provide the missing piece for the Second Great Quintet, an ensemble that stretched the possibilities of jazz as far as they could go.
As a sax player, his style allows him to effortlessly play bebop, fit seamlessly into jazz-rock and Brazilian-inspired contexts, and create some of the most captivating small group music of the modern jazz scene.
ONMO, fronted by Jean de Talhouët, will honour Shorter’s body of work with a bespoke 90 minute show that traverses the great man’s wide ranging styles and sounds.
