We’re celebrating the 65th anniversary of Charles Mingus’s classic Mingus Ah Um with a live performance of the album in its entirety.

Released by Columbia in 1959, Mingus Ah Um was double bassist Charles Mingus’s most famous creation. An incredibly diverse album with harmonies invoking modern classical music, similar to that of blues, and his hand-picked instrumentalists add different elements to the ensemble through their brief, well thought out solos.

Dubbed “The Most Creative Year in Jazz”  by All About Jazz, 1959 certainly handed fans a plethora of timeless records. Mingus’s contribution to this great catalogue is celebrated for the character, personality, humour and energy of his recordings and live performances.

This event is not an official collaboration with Charles Mingus.
