We are honoured to present the London debut of Gaye Su Akyol, the exciting young Turkish singer-songwriter.
Political and traditional influences of her home country’s musical and societal history permeate her work including that of the eternally relevant Selda Bağcan.
She fuses this with nods to Nirvana and Nick Cave, backed by an impressive band, to create a distinctive folk-rock style in which sturdy bass riffs and percussion underpin distinctively Turkish melodies. To this is added a dash of electronica, and local stringed instruments including the oud, bağlama and cümbüş to get a sound that is deeply original and at once recognisable as that of a rising international star.
Nominee for best artist at the Songlines awards 2019.
