Ghana has a proud and long history as one of Africa’s richest musical hotbeds, thanks in part to its inception of ‘highlife’, a genre that originated in the early 20th century.
Characterised by jazzy horns, multiple guitars and an uptempo, synth-driven sound, highlife has been a common feature in the work of seminal artists like Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Osibisa.
The Ghanaian Afla Sackey will be leading the show with special guest Huw Bennett (Susso/ Minyanta), a band who specialise in producing rhythm-driven, dance-inducing mix of London’s world music scene, from afrojazz and funk to afrobeat fusion.
