We can’t wait to return to Jazz Cafe in 2019, our third year in residence with another amazing show on the horizon.
Auntie Flo (Live)
Auntie Flo first joined us behind the turntables back at Canavans in 2016… Now fast forward to 2019, a new album in tow on Brownswood Recordings and a sold out show at Ghost Notes. We had to bring him and his killer band to The Jazz Cafe to show us what they can do. Prepare yourself for a rendition of his superb album Radio Highlife, reflecting on years of traveling the world in search of global sounds, field recordings and foreign voices to create an emphatic artistic statement.
Radio Highlife is an engaging live rendition of not only his newly released album on Gilles Peterson’s Brownwood Recordings but an expansive summation of his career thus far. Seven years of wild travelling, serendipitous encounters, deeply personal moments are packed into the live show with field recordings and themes from everywhere from Cuba to Cape Town, Bali to Kampala and voices from Russia, Istanbul, Senegal and the UK expertly fused together in an ambitious and original global statement.
Fellow Peckham label First Word Records, who notably introduced us to Children of Zeus, bring a Cardiff-based duo consisting of Henry Wu collaborator Earl Jeffers & Don Leisure. Previously releasing under their respective monikers, Metabeats and Jamal, they’ve produced an assortment of sounds over the years, from hip-hop to house to d’n’b. Their fusion of styles has pricked up the ears of tastemakers Tom Ravenscroft, Gilles Peterson Lefto, Om Unit, and Thristian.
South London’s latest upcoming talent joins us having supported the likes of Puma Blue and Black Midi… one to watch for 2019, don’t miss…
Bradley Zero, our founder, will be your host and DJ for the evening. Music begins at 7PM – see you then!
