To celebrate 50 years since its release in 1969, we have invited London’s premier saxophonist, the Mercury Prize nominated and double MOBO Award winning Soweto Kinch, to present his interpretation of Pharoah Sanders’ classic record Karma.
Karma was Sanders’ third recording as a leader, and is among a number of spiritually-themed albums released on the Impulse! record label in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Its opening track, the epic ‘The Creator Has a Master Plan’ achieved mainstream FM radio airplay, despite clocking in at over half an hour in length, and was the closest the avant-garde movement came to a “hit” alongside ‘A Love Supreme’.
On the night, Soweto will play Karma in its entirety, followed by a selection of other Sanders material plus some of his own compositions.
