To mark the 70th anniversary of the landing of Empire Windrush, we will be teaming up with Tomorrow’s Warriors alumnus Cherise Adams-Burnett and the Refugee and Migrant Centre to celebrate the rich musical and cultural impact of the Windrush Generation.
When the Windrush docked at Tilbury the ‘king of calypso’, Lord Kitchener, as well as Mona Baptiste, Lord Beginner and Lord Woodbine we all on board. The generation of musicians that followed them changed British music for the better.
Vocalist Cherise Adams-Burnett will lead her band in performing across a selection of genres originated by Carribean diaspora. From Kitchener and Rose’s calypso, to John Holt’s reggae and Sam Cooke’s Motown.
A portion of proceeds will be donated to The Refugee and Migrant Centre, who raised the case of Paulette Wilson and continues to support refugees settling into their communities.
