Sarathy Korwar presents Upaj:
Yorkston Thorne Khan + Sandunes

Friday 13th July

Following two sold out nights presenting south Asian music under Upaj, Sarathy Korwar returns for his third instalment with critically acclaimed trio Yorkston Thorne Khan and Indian electronic artist, Sandunes.

Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars, the new album from Yorkston Thorne Khan, follows 2016’s widely lauded debut Everything Sacred – presenting a confluence of currents, among them the north Indian sarangi; jazz-tinged bass, reminiscent in places of Danny Thompson; acoustic guitar that owes a debt to Elizabeth Cotton, Dick Gaughan and Mississippi John Hurt; and three very different vocalists – James Yorkston (East Neuk of Fife), Jon Thorne (Isle of Wight) and Suhail Yusuf Khan (New Delhi).

A sound that traverses traditional Indian and UK folk, Yorkston Thorne Khan do not only bring together Indian classical music and jazz, but kosmische too; Yorkston also cites dub reggae, Uilleann pipes and the Madagascan guitarist D’Gary as influences.

Joining them on the bill is one of India’s leading electronic music artists, Sandunes, who will be presenting a bespoke duo show with herself on synths and a drummer on stage.
